Spike Lee Bed Stuy Property Breaks Record With Pricey Sale

The Bed Stuy brownstone featured in Spike Lee’s semi-autobiographical movie “Crooklyn” sold Friday for $4.15 million, setting a local record.

With 3,600-square-feet of living space, the sale sets the neighborhood price-per-square-foot record with a valuation of nearly $1,153 per square foot, TheRealDeal reported. The record was previously held by a property at 204 Jefferson Avenue, which sold for $1,031 per square foot in 2022, a Compass representative told Patch.

The home at 7 Arlington Place was listed in September 2022 with a $4.5 million asking price, according to property records.

The four-bedroom was built in 1899 and designed by George Chappell, an architect responsible for a number of churches, houses and apartment buildings in the late 19th century. The home has largely been preserved to resemble Chappell’s original floor plan, according to the property’s listing.

The property’s appeal goes far beyond its star-power and architectural history. The brownstone boasts seven fireplaces, a garden, a “speakeasy”-style cellar and a roof deck, according to its Compass listing.
