With March 31 being the last date to submit property tax without additional penalty, over 67,000 property owners in Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) are yet to pay the tax for the current financial year of 2022-23.

The civic body officials stated that as per the record available with the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, there are around 2.3 lakh taxable properties in the city and of these, over 67,000 property owners are yet to pay the tax. They will have to pay a 20 per cent penalty and 18 per cent annual interest on payment of tax after March 31.

The officials informed that the residents can avail 10 per cent rebate on payment of property tax for the current fiscal by September 30. No penalty is imposed on payment of tax from October 1 to December 31. The department imposes a 10 per cent penalty on tax payments from January 1 to March 31. The penalty is increased to 20 per cent and 18 per cent annual interest is also imposed, if the residents fail to pay tax for the current year by March 31.

Municipal Corporation superintendent Vivek Verma stated that the civic body had also kept the ‘suvidha kendras’ open during the government holidays, including Thursday (March 30) to facilitate the public in submitting the tax. Heavy rush was witnessed at the centres.

He stated that text messages are also being sent to the residents who are yet to make the payment and warned of strict action against those who fail to pay the tax on time.
